Liberty Breakfast with Luke Barson (Rev) Suspicion or Discernment?

EXODUS 3:3

“SO MOSES THOUGHT; I WILL GO OVER AND SEE THIS STRANGE SIGHT-WHY THE BUSH DOES NOT BURN UP”.

Discernment is very important for every believer. It is so important that, our Lord Jesus Christ made it one of the gifts of the Spirit. While not everyone is given Spiritual Gift of Discernment, every human has a certain level of discernment. (Intuition)

In Ghana however, many people, including hard core Christians, label “suspicion with the pious name of discernment” and think they are being super spiritual. Whilst discernment recognises evil for what it is, Suspicion will imagine evil when there is none. People have imagined how a man or woman is cheating leading to break up, people will imagine how some staff members are stealing, leading to their dismissal, people will imagine how someone is an armed robber, leading to his death etc.

“And from that time on Saul kept a jealous eye on David”. (1 Samuel 18:8)

After David’s heroic adventure at killing Goliath, many people praised him (David). This made Saul jealous and wondered if David will take his throne. I am sure you have come across leaders as jealous as Saul, who do not want anybody to rise above them, and do not want their subordinates to be associated with any success. When Moses saw the burning bush, he said, “I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up”. He was genuinely curious and wanted to see what was going on. He didn’t imagine all sort of evil lurking near the bush. Saul was suspicious of David, letting his imagination run wild. He imagined evil motives when there were none.

Yesterday, a couple (names withheld) came to my office accusing each other of infidelity. It was the man who was suspicious of his beautiful, warm ,soft spoken, hardworking banker wife, yet this man is unable to enjoy this relationship because, he is suspicious of this young lady and her every move she makes. These suspicions, if not dealt with immediately, will land their marriage on rocks.

(To be cont)

Stay blessed always and remember to love someone and mean it.
