HEBREWS 13:5

“YOUR CONDUCT BE FREE FROM THE LOVE OF MONEY AND YOU MUST BE CONTENT WITH WHAT YOU HAVE, FOR HE SAID, “I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU AND I WILL NEVER ABANDON YOU.SO WE CAN SAY WITH CONFIDENCE, “THE LORD IS OUR HELPER, AND I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT CAN MAN DO TO ME”.

One of the most topical issues that has occupied the minds of most Ghanaians lately is “greed”. Truth is, preaching about greed is not easy.

Almost everybody in Ghana agrees that, “our leaders are greedy”. No day passes without a politician, pastor or some rich influential person in society being accused of greed. Radio and TV panelists, church members, employees and the general public sit back and say; “greed is bad”, the congregation respond; “preach on brother, we hate it”. Almost everybody is quick to judge a rich businessman of greed, or a rich preacher of greed in Ghana. Very few people in Ghana will admit “I have a problem with greed”. Some Christians tend to shrug off greed by comparing themselves with people who are richer and wealthier than them, and thinking greed is their problem.

Christians are to put to death the sinful nature with regards to greed, which amounts to idolatry. (Colossians 3:5). If greed was a problem for them then, then we who live in Ghana now must be worried about it. “The insatiable desire to have more money, possession or wealth for self gratification, while ignoring God and eternity”. When Christians become overly in love with money to the detriment of their fellow human beings it is greed. That’s how I define greed. Webster defines it as “excessive or reprehensible acquisitiveness”. “Covetous”, as marked by inordinate desire for wealth or possession or for another’s possession. Paul told his son Timothy not to be possessed by the love of money.

“The love of money is the root of all sort of evil”.(1 Timothy 6:10)

Greed is the attitude that’s never satisfied. Greed says, “all I want is a little more”.

Greed is cancerous, it kills a society faster than genocide…

(To be cont)

Stay blessed always and remember to love someone and mean it.
