Liberty Breakfast: By Luke Barson (Rev)-“Magnify Your God” Pt. 3

ACTS 10:44-46

One day, my father Rev Eben Dadson gave me a surprising advice that took me nearly two years to understand.

I have been privileged enough to minister in his church. It was such a great move of God. The feedback and testimonies from the congregation were awesome. He was excited! But he proceeded to tell me; “Beware of the hero syndrome”. He was right. My father is a great Bible teacher. Prophets hardly visit his church, unless one is a seasoned preacher. Comments about my personality and ministry from senior ministers and notable people within and outside the church raised us to stardom. Then we begin to raise our ego! We begin to think we are entitled to praise and recognition. We begin to think, we are the greatest ever. We begin to think we are the heroes, everyone else is a needy person. Then we begin to face the reality, that it’s NOT about us, it’s about GOD. He must increase, and we must decrease.

Magnifying God isn’t just for God’s benefit. God doesn’t need to be magnified because He is insecured or small. He is very much secured and already big. We magnify Him because we are insecured. Magnification fulfills your primary purpose as a created being. After Jesus performed some miracles, the crowd began praising God. The Pharisees wanted to rebuke them ( it’s always expected, anytime you want to praise God, you always have jealous and envious people fighting you)

But Jesus said “If these people become silent, the stones will cry out”. ( Luke 19:20). If you don’t praise and magnify God, you will magnify something else. People magnify their bosses, mentors and celebrities. God is the only one to be praised and magnified.

Magnification empowers you to do great and mighty things. When Peter exalted Jesus as the son of God, he moved in astonishing power. (Matthew 16:16) Peter’s great exploits only began after his magnification of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jehoshaphat and his people made God bigger than the enemy by simply singing, praising and magnifying Him and confusion set in the camp of his enemies, and they turned against one another. ( 2 Chronicles 20:15-22)

Magnifying the Lord restores ones understanding to the right order. When things go wrong, they take control. The business can collapse, your friends can turn against you, you can be scandalised, betrayed and blackmailed, but God is still on the throne if you know how to magnify Him.

Magnification reminds you of God’s presence, how BIG He is, and how small your problems are. Magnifying God kills the pride in you.

Stay blessed always and remember to love someone and mean it.
