The flood victims in the Upper West Region who received support from government recently through the vice president have organized a press conference to say thank you to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and government for the support.

They have also lashed out at the Member of Parliament for the Wa Central Constituency, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo for failing to empathize with them in their time of grief and need.

‘’We are only saddened and disappointed by the fact that, till date, the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Hon.Rashid Pelpuo has not seen it necessary to find out how his constituents who were being rendered homeless for all these weeks are faring’’. They said.

In a statement read at the press conference today October 5 2018 in the regional capital Wa, the flood victims regretted that their plight has been turned into an avenue where some people or groups want to make political capital out of.

‘’It is rather unfortunate the political mischief and undue capital, some opportunistic individuals or group of persons want to make out of our predicaments. We condemn this in no uncertain terms and have largely distanced ourselves from their baseless and unsubstantiated allegations and unwarranted attacks on the Vice President’’.

They also extended their appreciation to the political leadership in the region as well as the national and regional NADMO offices for their support.

See below the full statement as read at the press conference.

PRESS CONFERENCE BY FLOOD VICTIMS IN WA TO THANK VICE PRESIDENT AND GOVERNMENT FOR THE SUPPORT.

Friends from the media, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for making time with us despite the short notice.

Gratitude may be seen as the least of all virtues but to us, ingratitude is the worst of all vices. We wish to use this opportunity to thank his Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana for sharing with us in our time of pain and being there for us in those turbulent moments, when our houses and other belongings were destroyed by the floods that the WA Municipality recorded in recent times, which rendered many homeless.

We are very appreciative of the high sense of humility and exemplified leadership being demonstrated by the Vice President, where he did not only donate relief items to us on behalf of the government, but most importantly, came in person to ascertain the severity of the situation, to find out how we are faring and measures that could be taken to curtail future occurrences of such unfortunate situations. It was indeed an honour and we are very grateful for the immeasurable support.

We wish to state without any iota of doubt that, it was the first time government and its officials especially the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana came to our aid though flooding in these areas seem to be the norm for the past six years.

It is rather unfortunate the political mischief and undue capital, some opportunistic individuals or group of persons want to make out of our predicaments. We condemn this in no uncertain terms and have largely distanced ourselves from their baseless and unsubstantiated allegations and unwarranted attacks on the Vice President.

We also wish to state on records, that till date, none of us has any health challenges upon the consumption of the food items that were donated to us by the vice President.

Our heartfelt appreciation and commendations to the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Alhaj Alhassan Sulemana who also personally took steps and visited us at our respective homes when the flooding occurred. We thank the management of NADMO, both Regional and National and to all those who empathized and sympathized with us or came to our aid during these trying times. We are more than grateful.

We are only saddened and disappointed by the fact that, till date, the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Hon.Rashid Pelpou has not seen it necessary to find out how his constituents who were being rendered homeless for all these weeks are faring.

Once again, we are most grateful for the gesture and support from the Vice President and government. May Allah continue to guide, protect and bless the Vice President and the President for their service to mankind and nation.

Long live Upper West.

Long live Ghana.

Thank you
