Information filtering in to BestNewsGH.com indicates that the late announcement of former Kumasi Mayor in the John Mahama era, Kojo Bonsu to contest the NDC Presidential slot is hinged on the fact that he is frustrated for not making it into the list of the John Mahama 2020 campaign team.
Mr. Kojo Bonsu on Friday 28th September 2018 announced his intention to contest the flagbearership position of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the surprise of many including his own party folks.
BestNewsGH.com sources within the NDC said the former Mayor, a known John Mahama associate was peeved because he played a pivotal role in projecting the former president through the regional peace walks that the party embarked on.
The source said Mr. Bonsu was bitter because he felt betrayed and sidelined by the former president whom he dedicated time and resources to promote for the 2020 agenda.
‘’He was the last person we expected to be dropped from the team honestly. When the list came out and he was excluded, we were all surprised because we know Mr. Kojo Bonsu is a typical Mahama man and there is no argument about that. So we are all at a loss as to what might have happened to warrant his exclusion. So we don’t begrudge him for announcing his intention to contest’’ the source said.
The source further revealed that Mr. Bonsu waited with the expectation that he will named as one of the team members for the campaign and realizing that he has been dropped, decided to announce his intention to contest the former president who is already being challenged by about 10 other party big boys.
Former vice chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Professor Joshua Alabi, second deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah, Former Deputy Finance Minister, Kweku Rickets Hagan and former Trade and Industry Minister, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah are but a few of the NDC big boys who have laced their boots to challenge the former president who is seen by many political watchers as the favorite to clinch the slot.
It remains to be seen whether Mr. Osei Bonsu is bluffing or he means business and will go ahead to campaign for the position.
