PROVERBS 27:19
“AS IN WATER FACE REFLECTS FACE, SO THE HEART OF MAN REFLECTS MAN”.
In life, you don’t know where you are going, any road will lead you there.
One day, my father and mentor, Rev Eben Kweku Dadson asked me a question: What is success? I quickly answered him with all the zeal in me; “The amount of wealth owned by a person”. Then quickly I added; but that doesn’t mean the person is significant. He asked me to explain the difference: I told him, “Significance is the amount of impact one has made in the lives of people, but Success is the amount of wealth or money a person owns”. For many people, being happy and having a lot of money means success and the key to happiness. But I have discovered that, this mindset is the reason many believers are stuck in life.
Everybody wants to be successful, not just successful, but also socially significant. But as believers, we need to exhibit certain qualities that will catapult us into the limelight. No matter where we find ourselves, the first trait every believer must exhibit is: CHARACTER. Character is the determination to do what is right no matter the cost. One’s character is like the foundation of a house. The weaker the foundation, the weaker the house. The surface of the house may look beautiful, but it is the foundation that determines how long it will last.
As a Christian, whether in business, politics, public or civil service, be mindful of your character, not your reputation. Your character is who you really are; your reputation is what people think you are. If leaders, preachers, politicians and business owners watch their characters, their reputations will take care of themselves. Daniel had an excellent Spirit (Daniel 5:12-31) and a flawless character. His knowledge, understanding and excellent Spirit resulted in his promotion. The only “fault” they found in Daniel was that, he was praying too much. (Daniel 6:4). He had no Skeletons in the closet, no double lifestyles and no secrets lurking in the shadows. Christians must be people of impeccable character and integrity who live above reproach, both in public and in private. “We are the salt of the earth”. Character is formed when we choose to do the right thing when given the opportunity to do wrong.
Every day, we are confronted with the opportunity to lie, steal, cheat ( financially and emotionally), blackmail, betray, back-stab or even get corrupted, but we choose to live clean, just and right, free from a perverse life because we have our character to protect…
