PROVERBS 4:23(KJV)
The Hebrew word for; GUARD, (which is interchangeable with “KEEP”) literally means, “to set a watchman over it”. This means, believers must filter their emotions, desires, thoughts and responses with the word of God.
“How can a young man (young woman) have his way pure? By guarding it according to your word”. (Psalm 119:9)
The truth is, many people are led by their emotions, than by the word of God. How many times haven’t we all reacted to situations before remembering that we are not ordinary people, but CHRISTIANS, followers of Christ, light and salt of the world.
“Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the TABLET of thine HEART”. (Proverbs 3:3 KJV).
If a man’s heart is unhealthy, it threatens everything else; family, friends, career, profession, marriage, relationship etc
This is why if we must succeed as students, couples, leaders, entrepreneurs, political actors or even individuals; if we must survive in this “perverse and acurse world”, we must guard our hearts. Your heart is your thought life. “Above all else, guard your heart; for out of it are the issues of life “. Our hearts are connected to our brains. That’s why most people who get heart attacks damage their brains. “Your thought life controls the rest of your life”. Tell me what you are thinking, and I will tell you the kind of heart you are carrying”.
“As a man thinketh in his HEART, so he is”. (Proverbs 23:7) .
A man’s thoughts controls his actions. A man’s thoughts lead to attitude, attitude leads to action, action leads to those achievements(bad or good)
The believer’s heart is under constant attack. To guard your heart implies, you are living in a combat zone; one in which there are casualties. Many people pretend their hearts are ok, but their facial expressions tell a different story. We have an enemy who will stop at nothing to bring destruction to our lives. That’s why the enemy raises your heart all the time, even when your friend is doing the right thing.
The enemy not only opposses God, but everything God created, including you the reader. The enemy uses all kinds of weapons to destroy us…. anger, depression, ingratitude, hypertension…Guard your heart dear child of God.
