The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong Boanuh, on Friday, August 16, 2019, paid a one-day working visit to the Tema Regional Police Command.
The IGP met with both senior and junior officers from the five divisions and 15 districts of the region to familiarize himself with the security situation within the Tema Metropolis and its environs. He also used the occasion to interact with the men and addressed some issues that bothers on the welfare of personnel and general policing.
In his welcome remarks, the Tema Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Akrofi-Oyirifi Edward Johnson gave a brief overview of the security situation within the region. He stated that the command has intensified day and night vehicular patrols. Duty officers have also been tasked with supervisory roles to ensure effective patrols to achieve maximum results. He was also grateful to the police administration for their immense support in the fight against crime in the region. He concluded that generally, the Tema Police Region was peaceful.
Addressing the officers, the Acting Inspector General of Police admonished them to exhibit professionalism in the execution of their duties. He advised them to be civil to the people they serve in the communities. He stressed the need to reduce crime especially violent ones such as robbery and kidnappings by intensifying foot and visibility patrols as well as community policing.
He intimated that his administration will continue to build the capacity of personnel in the service. The acting IGP added that personnel will be exposed to both local and foreign training programmes to enhance their professionalism and expertise in line with our vision and mission statements.
The Acting Inspector General of Police advised commanders of all units and police formations to periodically hold welfare meetings to know the concerns and challenges facing personnel for prompt solutions and for a healthy two-way communication flow. He averred that the welfare of personnel was paramount as far as their output is concerned.
Officers were given the opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns and suggestions, which the acting IGP accompanied by some members of the Police Management Board such as COP/Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Director-General MTTD, COP/Mrs. Beatrice Zakpaa Vib-Sanziri, Director General Police Professional Standards Bureau and COP/Mr. Alex Amponsah Asiamah, Director General Services, helped to address. Other members of POMAB who also accompanied the acting IGP included DCOP/Mr. Simon Yaw Afeku, Director General ICT, DCOP Nana Asomah Hinneh, Director General Human Resource Department and Chief Superintendent Owusu Ansah, the Chief Staff Officer.
