Liberty Breakfast: By Luke Barson (Rev)-“A Heart Of Gratitude” Pt. 5

1 CHRONICLES 23:30

People whose hearts are full of gratitude are the world’s most happiest people. “Gratitude is the world’s healthiest human emotion”. Infact, “gratitude actually increases our immunity to sickness”. Ungrateful people tend to be unhappy people. Nothing ever satisfies them. All around Ghana, addiction, hate, greed, deception, pride and arrogance are destroying lives. People are desperate and despondent. There’s a rise in crime, violence, poverty, immorality and “an anti-Christ agenda. People are increasingly becoming selfish, greedy and ungrateful.

“For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him or gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claim to be wise, they became fools”. (Romans 1:21-22 NIV)

A genuine Christian should practice perpetual gratitude.

“In everything give thanks; (be grateful, show appreciation: emphasis mine) for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you”. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

One of the many reasons why believers have become so ungrateful is PRIDE. Many believers today express ingratitude because they have this erroneous impression that, they have accomplished everything by their own strength. Sure, you have worked hard; no doubt about that; you have given your maximum effort and made good decisions.

“You may say to yourself, my power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me. But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power (strength, life, wisdom, ideas etc, emphasis mine) to make wealth…(Deuteronomy 8:17-18 NIV)

Watch your words and check your actions. Take NO credit for anything, and don’t arrogate to yourself the glory that belongs to God. I have met believers, leaders, businessmen and women, academicians and professionals who have become so “SELF-CENTRED”, that they will never appreciate God for anything, much less the people (staff) around them. Self-centeredness is a mark of immaturity. When you hear people say; “I deserve this, or that”; “I deserve more than this”, it’s a sign of immaturity. The self-centred person always talks of; “I, I, I”, and “me, me”. If you are not grateful for what you have now, why should God give you more? Check your heart when it comes to showing gratitude to God and people. Stop showing “a critical spirit” towards God and the people around you. Instead of seeing the good in people, appreciating them and expressing gratitude to God for their lives, we look for faults and blames. When we you have unrealistic expectations of yourself and others, you will always see negative in everything. You rarely notice the abundant blessings God showers on you everyday.

“Be content with what you have, and you will be content with what others have. Is continual gratitude a characteristic of your life? Do you have a heart of gratitude? Do you practice perpetual gratitude?

Stay blessed always and remember to love someone and mean it.
