The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Efutu Constituency in the Central Region, Alexander Afenyo Markin has revealed that the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education Winneba,  Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful Broni is sponsoring an independent Parliamentary candidate against him for the 2020 elections.

‘’As a way of neutralising my influence on the affairs of the University, he is now sponsoring an independent candidate against me. His spokesperson Alhassan Bawa who yesterday was insulting me all over the place is now claiming that I am interfering and I asked him, but yesterday when I was fighting for Fr. And assisting him with all manner of things where was he?’’ he said.

Mr. Afenyo Marking said Alhassan Bawa is going round with the independent candidate and has thrown his support to him saying ‘’on Friday according to Tescon President, Alhassan Bawa called him, the Tescon treasurer and the Tescon Secretary and took them to the restaurant of the independent candidate and what they told them was that the Vice Chancellor is uncomfortable with me and they want to support the independent candidate to win the 2020 election so that I get off the scene because I disturb a lot. According to the Tescon president he told them that he is an NPP member and cannot support an independent candidate and mobilise students on campus to fight against their MP’’.

According to him, the move comes in the wake of the turbulence that has engulfed the University following agitations by both lecturers and students for the removal of the Vice Chancellor for what they say is victimisation of some persons who are questioning his leadership style.

Speaking on Accra based okay Fm and monitored by BestNewsGH.com, Mr. Afenyo Markin accused the Vice Chancellor of perpetrating acts that he (VC) complained about in the past and on whose back he rode to the leadership of the University.

The Businessman and legal practitioner said the Vice Chancellor cannot in any way justify his actions and must reinstate officials of the University he has dismissed and also resign for his gross indiscretion  in the administration of the school since he assumed the position of Vice Chancellor in September last year.

‘’When things were going wrong and he got alarmed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor at the time, I was the one he run to. He saw some payments that were going on and that some contracts they awarded were irregularly done. They came to me with documents and pleaded with me to intervene. And I took up the matter, raised it in parliament and we got you there. So he has no justification to go there and even pay double of the amount he complained was too much. He must resign and that is the honourable thing to do’’ he said.
