It is common to see youngmen on the streets of Accra, mostly at traffic lights cleaning windshields or windscreens of vehicles for money.

But it is emerging that some of these youngmen are criminals and constituting a nuisance to drivers.

BestNewsGH.com can confirm that indeed, most of them have assumed a posture that looks like it is a must, or by force for a driver to give them money, whether or not the driver patronises them.

A driver has been narrating an ugly encounter with one of these hooligans around the East Legon Area in Accra. Read the narration below:

‘’Dear downtowner, I would like to share my near fatal incident with you so you will be vigilant when driving in town especially in and around East Legon Back Road, popularity called “under the bridge road”

Yesterday afternoon around 5pm, I had an unfortunate incident at the traffic light located at the airport junction on the spintex road: A guy wanted to clean my car windscreen, when I stopped him, he then asked me to give him money, I did not mind him.  The next thing I saw was him raising the cleaning stick to hit me.  The driver of the vehicle driving behind me saw what he did and got down from his car and wanted to discipline him and in the process of questioning him, the boy got angry and threw the cleaning stick at my car and it snatched  the car back screen into pieces…

He tried running away into the bush, but the bystanders chased him and got him.

I was also told that similar thing involving a lady happened at that same junction the previous day, when the lady refused to give them money, they opened her back door and bolted with her handbag.

Please be Allert. Accra is becoming increasingly dangerous.’’
