Investigations by BestNewsGH.com revealed that the former Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Rev. Dr. Issaka Peter Azumah was paid One Thousand, One Hundred (1,100) dollars as rent allowance and not Five Thousand (5,000) dollars as being bandied around in the media.

The investigations also revealed that the former Director General also fully paid for the One Hundred and Forty Five thousand (145,000) Ghana cedis internet at his private residence from his own pocket.

A deep throat source at the Authority told this website that Rev. Dr. Azumah instructed that the amount for the internet be deducted from his end of service benefits, which directive was complied with and the monies taken off by the Authority.

The source described as palpable falsehood, suggestions that the former Director General collected a monthly rent allowance of 5 thousand dollars, adding that it was rather the current Director General who increased the amount from 1 thousand 1 hundred dollars to the 5 thousand dollars.

‘’When the issue of the 145 thousand Ghana cedis internet came up, he (former DG) said we should deduct the amount from his end of service benefits because he didn’t want any troubles. And we did that and so he fully paid for the internet. It is also not true that he was taking 5, thousand dollars as rent allowance. He was taking 1 thousand 1 hundred dollars every month as rent allowance and the records are there. It was rather this current DG who upped the amount to 5 thousand dollars’’

The Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority has come under fire from a section of the Ghanaian public for spending 1 Million Ghana Cedis to renovate his official residence.

He is also accused of sanctioning and spending 135 thousand Ghana Cedis on an end of year party for staff of the Authority and also spending 10 thousand Ghana cedis on lunch for 17 people.

He has since justified the spending, intimating he acted within the confines of the law and duly received approval from the Authority’s governing board.
