The immediate past General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong say the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo must come clear and speak on his involvement in the explosive audio recording that has since gone viral on both mainstream and social media.

According to him, the flip flopping and contradictions from party executives in their quest to rubbish and explain away the content of the audio, makes it imperative for Mr. Ofosu Ampofo who is the at the centre of it all to speak up.

‘’You have the Communications officer of the party saying the tape is a fake and doctored one and you have his deputy who also says yes, the man at the centre of it all indeed made those statements and that it was at a party meeting and the party people are in full support of all that he said. So there is so much controversy and as it stands now, it is important for the man himself around whom the issue revolves to speak up. If he is not the one on the tape, he should come clear and tell us, the day the said meeting took place I was not in Ghana, if you want ask my wife. I am innocent. But on the other hand if he is complicit, he should just apologise and that will end the matter’’ he said.

Dr. Opuni Frimpong described as unfortunate, portions of the tape that incited party supporters against the chairman of the national peace council, Most Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asaante, saying the National Peace Council encapsulate Members from almost all the Christian and Muslim denominations in the country and that the clergy must not be made to look like public enemies.

His comments come on the back of the leaked audio which has since gone viral on both social and mainstream media in which the National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is heard making very damning revelations on some moves the party intends to make in the lead up to the 2020 elections.

He is also heard revealing how they will make life unbearable for some Ghanaians, particularly members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying ‘’we will go after them. But we will not go after them face-to-face. We have to use tactical operation to make life uncomfortable for them. We will target some people and we will let the people know that their lives are in danger. They themselves will be careful. As for that one, I want to assure you that we will go all out to ensure that it happens. As president Mahama said, when it comes to this game, we are better than them’’.

That aside, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo in the tape also instigated and incited NDC party supporters and members against well-meaning Ghanaians including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa and the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante.
