An SOS sent by the northern regional Minister Salifu Saeed to public spirited individuals and institutions soliciting help for victims who have been displaced by floods in the region has not yielded any dividends yet.

This is because those who have been asked to help are now making enquiries and taking statistics on the extent of havoc that has been unleashed on the people before they are able to decide what support to give.

Northern regional Minister, Salifu Saeed explains that the situation has become so dire with desperation setting in, particularly on the part of the displaced victims.

According to him, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has yet to respond to calls for some relief items to be mobilised for the victims who lost substantial amounts of property to the floods.

‘’The victim numbers have been increasing so we are still doing more sensitisation. Sometimes they will be sleeping in the night and before they realise the whole place is flooded. We are still assessing the situation, the experts are on the ground working and when all that is done, we will know the extent of havoc that has been created as result’’ he said.

Torrential rains in the last few days have ravaged the northern region, putting lives and property in danger, forcing the political leadership of the region to make desperate moves to ameliorate the burden and hardship that has been unleashed on those affected by the floods.

BestNewsGH.com sources paint a sad and gloomy picture of the situation as the rains continue to fall without any sign of stopping.
