General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia is asking the special prosecutor, Martin Amidu to immediately launch investigations into the sports kits gift that was given to the Rebecca Foundation by Chinese firm Startimes.

The first lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo who is the founder of the Rebecca Foundation a few days ago alluded to the fact that the company had given the foundation some football kits for onward delivery to the SOS Children’s village.

This was when the foundation issued a statement denying any links with Startimes as being speculated by sections of the public.

But the NDC General Secretary who was speaking on Accra based okay Fm and monitored by BestNewsGH.com said the special prosecutor together with the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice must investigate the first lady so as to ascertain if the gift, worth 50 thousand dollars was to influence the her to help the company get the controversial contract that is currently the subject of discussion in the country.

In his opinion, the mere fact that the first lady is aware of the controversy that is currently raging in the country with regards to the startimes contract should have rejected the gift outrightly.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia is also impressing upon transparency institutions and civil society groups to add their voice to the matter in order that any doubts on the minds of Ghanaians will be cleared.
