The National Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Sammi Awuku say advisors to former President John Dramani Mahama on the COVID-19 Pandemic and the economy have failed in their mandate.

According to him, the advisors are not doing a good job, hence the misinformed stance and pronouncements by the former president, who is also the Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2020 elections.

Mr. Awuku’s comments come on the back of suggestions by Mr. Mahama that Ghana’s economy is currently on ventilators and has been badly exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NPP National Organiser who was speaking on Accra based Asempa FM and monitored by BestNewsGH.com averred forcefully that ‘’I completely disagree with the former president and I think those advising him on these matters are not doing a good job. Unlike Ebola where the virus was confined to one geographical location, this virus is global. This is a virus that emanated from the far East and has severely impacted everyone globally’’

Mr. Awuku who is also the Board Chairman of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) continued that ‘’The confidence of the Bretton Woods Institutions in Ghana’s economy is the reason why they accepted to return to Ghana and support the economy with 1 Billion Dollars. If they did not have confidence in the managers of the economy, there is no way they could have offered such assistance and I can tell you that for a fact because they know if these people (NDC) comes back, they will mismanage the economy and loot resources for personal gain.’’

The NPP National Organiser opined that government through prudent management has been able to put the economy on an even keel and rectified the mess it inherited from the NDC when they took over power in January 2017.

‘’Because, we have come and implemented very strict measures and delivering on our promises to better the lot of the Ghanaian people, coupled with how transparent we have been in managing this economy and also taking cognizance of where we are coming from and our ability to fulfill our promises even in this period when the world is facing a global crisis because of COVID-19, it is laughable for Mr. Mahama to talk down on the economy’’ he pointed out.

BestNewsGH.com reports Mr. Awuku as arguing that ‘’If you go to America today, the government has spent trillions of Dollars just in trying to manage this pandemic, so with that, what will Mr. Mahama say? As we speak right now, several countries including European countries are running to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), seeking support financially to enable them manage the pandemic. So is it a test that all these countries failed?.’’
