Nine Nigerians have been confirmed dead in the airstrike, which struck a Libyan Migrant Detention Camp in Tripoli on Tuesday night.

The foreign ministry in its statement in Abuja on Thursday, said the casualty figure were preliminary findings by a diplomatic mission that visited the hangar in the suburb of Tajoura.

“A diplomatic mission confirmed that nine nigerian men lost their lives. the mission has identified and taken custody of three women, one man, a toddler and a 10-year-old boy,” the statement said.

The United Nations which confirmed that 44 people were killed and more than 130 severely wounded in the attack, had said the attack in Tripoli could constitute a war crime. This comes amidst the trade of blames between Libya’s internationally recognised government and its arch-foe strongman Khalifa Haftar.
