Liberty Breakfast with Prophet Luke Barson-The Ticklers of Our Time Pt 7(Character of a Prophet)

1 SAMUEL 12:3

“HERE I STAND. TESTIFY AGAINST ME IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD AND HIS ANOINTED. WHOSE OX HAVE I TAKEN?….”

It is often said that; “Your gift will send you to places, but your character will determine how long your stay there”.

A prophet is not just an ordinary person. He is God’s spokesperson on earth. Representing God, and speaking for Him will be impossible unless some Godly character is manifested. In the ministry of the prophet, God is not only concerned about the message, but also concerned about the character and attitude of the messenger. If the messenger is wrong, the message will be wrong. “No prophet can have high visions and lead a low life”. No matter how true a prophecy is, once a prophet is morally bankrupt, the prophecy and prophetic ministry will be deemed fake. Every Prophet MUST be full of the Power of the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, no prophet can function. He will only be babbling tales, full of himself and self-centred.

“For many years you were patient with them. By your Spirit you warned them through your prophets”. (Nehemiah 9:30)

“His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and Prophesied”. (Luke 1:67)

I have observed, rather sadly the powerlessness of the modern day prophet. The once feared ministry has been reduced to a game of chess, competing to outwit and outsmart each other. It is difficult to introduce yourself these days as a prophet without an insult ,a negative comment or being tagged as an unemployed insignificant nincompoop.

Both the Old and New Testament Prophets were men of Discipline, Wisdom, Insight and counsel; not men of wild ecstasy as we are witnessing today. The modern day prophet is supposed to be trained primarily by the Lord Jesus Christ himself through His Holy Spirit, but must also have a minimum academic qualification from an accredited theological seminary or university.

The Prophet’s training is as much in life as in the classroom…
