One of the greatest boxers that ever lived on earth was “Iron Mike Tyson”. He was so strong that, none of his opponents lasted past the 7th round in any fight.
He was undefeated, undisputed, famous, rich and young. Until he met Buster Douglas at Tokyo Dome in 1990. Douglas gave him the beatings of his life, he lost by a Knockout to the underdog Douglas. Tyson’s past victories over all his opponents did not only make him complacent, he also became proud and arrogant.
One serious danger of complacency is that; it causes you to live off your past victories. As believers, we are to seek Christ, and when we do, he causes us to have victories. Victories over our enemies, over diseases and sicknesses, over poverty, over inferiority complex etc. The danger comes when people begin to rely on their past victories and experience instead of Christ.
Many people often experience the power of God in their lives and then assume because he acted like this in the past, he will always do the same in the future. They begin to become comfortable in their ways and the things they do for God in their faith in a very complacent manner. They think of the past and no longer seek God in the present and future. Many marriages and relationships have been torn apart because of complacency. I have seen the rich become poor because of complacency. I have seen great preachers who once commanded great congregations selling on the streets of Accra because of complacency. I have seen governments lose elections because of complacency.
Around 2011/2012, my family and I were going through some challenges. Blackmail, backstabbing, conspiracies etc (details another time).
A “pastor” from the same organisation came to me and said; “As for me, I am holy, I am very honest, I know I will never face any scandal”.Waww!! A year later, he was dismissed and I was still there, till I resigned to go to school to do my Masters in Legon.
When people become overly complacent, they speak arrogantly and without any sense of respect.
Stay blessed always and remember to love someone and mean it.
