Liberty Breakfast: Do You Know Yourself?-By Luke Barson (Rev)

JOB 13:23

I know everyone desires success, good health and prosperity. But not everyone succeeds. There are certain parameters on which success depend. Those who desire to be successful, especially in the Christian life must know who they are in Christ Jesus. Those who are called to work for Christ must desire to be successful workers. There is one basic principle on which all success must be built. If this is ignored, partial or complete failure is certain.

I have realised that, many people are struggling to know God because they don’t even know who they are themselves. An awareness of self and one’s relationship with God are closely related.

“Whoever claims to love God and yet hate his brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen”. 1 John 4:20

In Ghana, pretending to be someone we are not is so big in our culture. Many people don’t even know who they are. They don’t want people to know they attend” a small church”, they don’t want people to know they are associated with a particular pastor going through some challenges, people even deny their tribes and culture. Our political leaders do it all the time to get votes. Business leaders do it to generate profit and married couple do it to stay away from the culture of pressure from both sides of the family. It is easy to pretend to be someone or something on the outside, but you can’t deny who you are in the inside. Students wear other people’s faces to fit in at school with their friends and teachers. People wear masks both spiritually and physical to hide their true identity. God does not want his children to be who they are not. He wants us to be who we are, unique in every sense and come to Him just as we are.

Focus on your abilities and talents given to you by God. Never look for any value or purpose outside what God has already given you. Get to know who you are. Feeling valuable can influence your emotions, decisions, mental wellbeing and spiritual upliftment. Don’t try to be someone else, JUST BE YOU, and know who you are.

Stay blessed always and remember to love someone and mean it.
