Liberty Breakfast: By Luke Barson (Rev)-“Doubt” Pt. 1

JOHN 2O:26-29

“A WEEK LATER THE DISCIPLES WERE IN THE HOUSE AGAIN, AND THOMAS WAS WITH THEM….THEN HE SAID TO THOMAS, “PUT YOUR FINGER HERE; SEE MY HANDS…”

I have realised, in my scheme of work that, no one is “baptised” against DOUBT. Anybody can be doubtful at any point in time; it is how one handles doubt that makes the difference.

Even the greatest men and women of God, ever recorded in the Bible, at one point or the other had some elements of doubt in their walk with God. Gideon, doubted God when he was addressed as “mighty man of valour”.. (Judges 6:12-13).

Sarah, had some element of doubt when she was told she would give birth to a son , at a time she had passed the age of bearing children. (Genesis 18:1-15)

Jesus addressed John The Baptist as the greatest man ever to be borne.

“Verily I say unto you. Among them that are born of women, there hath not risen anyone greater than John The Baptist”.( Matthew 11:11 KJV)

Yet, when he ( John The Baptist) was cast into prison for criticising Herod about marrying his brother’s wife, he became discouraged, doubtful and depressed. He sent his disciples to go to Jesus and ask Him if indeed He was the Christ. ( Luke 7:19-20)

Challenges, storms and other pressures of life can make the strongest believer DOUBT his or her God. Jesus’ answer to John was simple and straight forward. “Go back and tell him the miracles they had seen”. ( Luke 7:24-28)

Your doubt or unbelief will not stop God from performing miracles. It will not also stop others from believing and receiving miracles and breakthroughs from God. Many people have Bibles in their book shelves gathering dust, and the few who carry them to church see it as a fashion; when they are struggling with doubt and unbelief, they won’t open a scripture to read. People want quick answers in magical forms; they want to see something tangible, something emotional they can feel before they believe. In the circular world, people see things before they believe. In Christianity, we believe before we see.

“Then Jesus told him, Because you have seen me,you believe; blessed are those who have NOT seen and yet have believed”. ( John 20:29 NIV)

People really want to see things, physically and get emotionally attached to it,so they can feel better. Overcoming doubt isn’t just about feeling better, it’s about getting back into faith; it’s about raising your faith, and reducing your doubts. It’s about knowing that, God can do more exceedingly.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that, whether you believe or doubt, it won’t change God. It won’t also stop others from believing and trusting Him.

To be cont..

Stay blessed always and remember to love someone and mean it.
