2 PETER 1:5-6
One of the qualities that brought David to the limelight was his positive character. His courage and trust in God. He slayed Goliath, at the time his own brothers didn’t believe in him. ( 1 Samuel 17:28)
David was a man of compassion, tender hearted and gentle in spirit. We see the character of Jesus in David. He was kind and his kindness came from his heart. Saul had chased him for most part of his life and made his life miserable. But was still kind to Saul.
“Is there still no one in the house of Saul that I may show the kindness of God to him”? ( 2 Sam 9:3)
As believers, we too are instruments of love and kindness. Kindness and love are fruits of the Spirit. Even when people mistreat us, betray us,unkind and unloving, because we carry the nature of God, we are expected to show the character of kindness. The truth is, no genuine believer has any other character apart from the new character found in Christ. If we truly claim we are followers of Christ, then any other character apart from the new character found in Christ is carnal and deceptive. Many believers claim they are honest, truthful and sincere. They claim they are perfect and want people to be truthful, sincere and honest with them, but they can not handle the truth when they hear it. Dear reader, the truth is, you need to change. Your character does not reflect what Christ stands for, and it’s contrary to “who you claim you are”. Saul lived in a palace of stone and pride; and David in a cave of dampness and humility; always hanging out with the outcasts and destitute of the land.
You don’t need to tell people who you are; your character will tell, no matter how long it takes, it will surely show either for all the good things or for all the bad things. “Your real character is what you are in the dark”.( when nobody is around)
