EPHESIANS 4:29 ( NIV)
Many believers do not understand the word “MINISTER”. If people understand that, a Christian Minister is a “Servant”, they will not lord over people. To minister to someone means to serve the person.
In most churches, people don’t see themselves as servants, they see themselves as “little gods”, who want to do God and His people a favour. Such people have a high opinion of themselves. Church “bullies” have a wrong opinion of themselves, they don’t see their actions as bullying, they see it as taking leadership, they see it as filling a vacuum. You see them very assertive, hard working, taking charge of people, and yet, beneath all that, there is a hidden agenda. It is not bad to step up and fix a problem in the church, in the community or even among friends, when neglected. The error comes when those fixing the problems run over others to “fix” matters, when they ignore God’s laid down structures and procedures to get their way; and if they are not recognised or honoured, they get upset. They forget they are servants, and become bullies.
Dear reader, “the best way to tell if you are a bully reading this is to ask yourself; How do I handle pain, hurt, or rejection of my opinion”?. No one likes rejection. No one enjoys his or her opinion, suggestions or recommendations being ignored. But that happens to all of us most of the time, but the way we handle it tells people about our character and motives. “Bullies feel superior to the rank and file of church members”. Church bullies do not think of their dictatorial actions as unhealthy for the work of God, and church growth. “,It is either their way or it’s no way”.
“Church bullies know a lot about the Word of God, but do not know God’s heart”. They see everything from their own perspective, and not from the perspective of God. Bullies lack the spirit of humility. Apart from this missing element (humility) in their lives, they have no fear of The Almighty God. We must understand that, once we decide, this is God’s house, we must also agree that, these are God’s people, and we are accountable to Him for our behaviours.
Church bullies are insecure about who they are in Christ, they bully because, most often they want recognition.
