PROVERBS 19:22
“WHAT A PERSON DESIRES IS UNFAILING LOVE; BETTER TO BE POOR THAN TO LIE”.
One of the values in Christianity that is gradually being underrated is KINDNESS. Believers equate kindness to simply being nice, pleasant or exchange of greetings. They think it is all about getting along with people, smiling etc.
True kindness is Spirit-produced. It’s a fruit every believer must bear. (Galatians 5:22)
It is a supernaturally generous orientation of our hearts towards other people, even when they don’t deserve it and don’t love you in return. Kindness is an attitude of God, desirable, but not consistently found among Christians. This attitude should be extended to all God’s people, regardless of their backgrounds or status in society.
“God is kind to all He has made”.(Psalm 145:9)
God Himself is kind in His ways. His kindness is meant to lead people to repentance. Believers are usually quick to say they carry the nature of Christ, but are not ready to imitate his kindness. It’s not easy to be kind to people who once betrayed you, stabbed you at the back, scandalised, stigmatised and blackmailed you. It’s not easy to be kind to people whose only agenda is continually to disgrace you on the pulpit, in the office, in the church, market place, work place etc. But the centrality of Christianity is to love and show kindness to those who hate you, and keep hurting you.
“Love your enemies, and do good to them, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil”.(Luke 6:35).
Our kindness as Christians reflect the heart of God.
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you”. Ephesians 4:32
Kindness may not be pleasant. Infact, it feels more like you are a coward or a blow to the head. There will be no difference between an ordinary person and you (the Christian) if you measure your ethical, moral and spiritual values same as the others who are not in Christ Jesus.
