KNUST saga: New Council to be constituted today, school likely to reopen before 8th November-PRO

Assistant Registrar at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kwame Yeboah has confirmed that the chancellor of the University, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is on course to meeting the timeline given to him by government to constitute a new governing council for the school.

According to him, the new council will be outdoored today, Friday November 2, 2018 and that the school is likely to resume before the scheduled and agreed date of November 8, 2018.

On the issue of properties that were destroyed during the violent demonstration by the students, Mr. Yeboah corroborated reports that the estimated cost of the destruction stands at between 1.6 and 1.7 million Ghana cedis.

He said the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has hinted that an independent body would have to embark on an investigation in order to come up with the estimated cost of damage and recommendations on who and how to service the cost.

According to him, the fact-finding visit to the University by the chancellor and his team on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 was a successful one that afforded the team the opportunity to assess things for themselves and to meet various stakeholders in the matter.

He described the campus as serene and quite at the moment with some workers still cleaning portions that were hit by the acts of vandalism on the day of the demonstration.

‘’Things are okay now, when the chancellor visited he met and spoke to several people and so I can says it is ok and things are normalising now’’ he added.
