Former Minister for energy in the John Dramani Mahama administration, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has revealed that the NDC during his tenure as energy Minister scouted for and brought the current chief executive officer of the Ghana Gas Company, Dr. Ben Asante from Houston Texas in the United States of America to Ghana, as an engineer to help work on the Ghana Gas project.

According to him, the NDC had a long term plan for the sector which sought to ensure and guarantee knowledge transfer from the Chinese expatriates to Ghanaians after they had finished constructing the gas plant and operated it for two years.

‘’The plan we decided on was that we will first of all train Ghanaian engineers and so we sponsored some of them to go for further studies abroad some of them in the specialisation of Gas operations and we also searched for Ghanaians in the diaspora who had expertise in the sector like Dr. Ben Asante, we deliberately went and looked for him in Houston and brought him, today he is the CEO.’’ He noted.

In his estimation, the plan worked and so in 2017 there was a transition in which the Ghanaian engineers have now fully taken over the plant.

Mr Armah Buah who is the NDC Member of Parliament for the Ellembele constituency in the Western Region called for the de-politicisation of the Gas sector in the country, arguing that the country stands to lose greatly from any hitch that may occur in the sector.
