President Nana Akufo-Addo in January, 2019 signed an executive instrument to allow for work to commence on the Keta Port. The chiefs and people of Keta have also welcomed the decision for a third port to be constructed in the area.

The Director of Keta Port, Dr. Alexander Adusei has revealed that the Port of Keta will be unique from the two ports of Ghana, the Port of Tema and Port of Takoradi and would bring potential new opportunities to the port industry in Ghana.

“We need to ensure that Keta is unique among the two functioning Ports in Ghana, so that everything that whatever the port needs that is currently the best practice in Africa, is imported into Keta. We are going to take our time to develop Keta and it will be an entry point,” he revealed.

He said the Keta Port will be built in a way that will also benefit the neighboring countries as well.

Dr. Alexander Adusei was speaking at the side-lines of the 40th Council Meeting and Conference of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa, in Lomé, Togo, where he was a key member of the Ghanaian delegation assigned to the event.

He said, the Port would not only contribute to the GDP of the nation’s economy, but will transform the lives of the constituents of the Keta area, by creating a vibrant urban centre in Keta.

“I see Keta Port as the beginning of the re-development of Volta Region and also Oti Region and what Keta Port will bring to environment will be unique. The same way Tema Port reorganized the people of Tema,” he projected.
