The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Gloria Akuffo has recommended the immediate arrest, interdiction and prosecution of the Director of Finance for the Ghana Maritime Authority Kwame Ohemeng Tinyase for arson.
The Attorney General also advised that the Director General of the Authority should refuse an application by the embattled finance director for voluntary retirement.
The advice follows a request by the board chairman of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Robert Kutin to the AG for legal opinion on the subject, in which Mr. Ohemeng Tinyase has been accused of setting fire to the finance department of the Authority in frantic efforts to conceal information on alleged graft.
‘’The board should forward the fire report submitted to the Ghana Fire Service to the Ghana Police Service for investigations and possible prosecution. The Director of finance by his letter dated 19th June 2018 indicated that he was traveling out the country for more than two months. It is apparent that he has absconded. He ought to be apprehended to face the law with the assistance of Interpol.’’ The AG’s letter to the GMA board chair read in part.
The AG also cited the board of the authority for certain lapses as far as the matter is concerned and advised both the board and the management to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the public services manual.
