The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced plans by government to issue National Identity cards to homeless and street children in the country.
BestNewsGH.com can report the Vice President as saying a special arrangement will be made for the National Identification Authority (NIA) to issue the cards to them as they are not likely to be captured in the ongoing process.
Vice President Bawumia made the announcement on Saturday, January 18, 2020, when he joined the Parish Priest of the Christ the King Parish of the Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell to mark the 4th anniversary celebration of the Christ the King soup kitchen.
Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed government’s commitment to continue with the provision of skills training for street children to enable them earn a living, become independent and move away from the streets into permanent accommodation and livelihoods.
The Vice President, BestNewsGH.com can confirm, also announced that government, through the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has provided land for the construction of accommodation and a school for street children.
He also expressed his profound appreciation to all who have been generous to the project and pleaded with others to support efforts like the Christ the King Soup Kitchen.
The Christ the King Soup Kitchen is an intervention initiated by the Parish Priest of the Christ the King Church, Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell and supported by the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC).
The soup kitchen for the last four years has provided free breakfast meals, clothes, toiletries, skills development and created a sense of belonging for the street children in Accra.
