Ghana Maritime Authority gets new DG, Yaw Akosa Antwi also appointed as a Deputy DG

BestNewsGH.com can report authoritatively that the former District Chief Executive for the Builsa District in the Upper East Region, Mr. Thomas Kofi Alonsi has been appointed the new Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA).

Mr. Alonsi picked up his appointment letter today, Friday March 1, 2019 at the presidency and is due to report to work next week after the 62nd Independence Day celebrations billed to take place in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.

Mr Alonsi, a legal practitioner takes over from Mr. Kwame Owusu who retired as Director-General of the GMA a little over 3 weeks ago after serving for two years.

The new Director-General has been described as a true ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) person who has had a go at the Builsa North Parliamentary seat in the Upper East Region on two occasions.

This website can also confirm that a new Deputy Director General has also been appointed and this brings the number of deputy Director-Generals to two.

Already, Mr. Daniel Appianin is the Deputy Director General at the Authority, but BestNewsGH.com sources say the new deputy DG, Yaw Akosa Antwi also picked up his appointment letter from the presidency yesterday.

He takes over an Authority that has widely been described by staff as an entity that has been put on a sound footing by the immediate past Director-General in terms of improvement in revenue and profitability.

Mr. Kwame Owusu according BestNewsGH.com sources at the Authority left a big mark within his short stay in office, improved revenue profits and purchased 7 brand new patrol boats for mounting surveillance on Ghana’s territorial waters.

According to the staff, he also started the procurement process for the Authority’s head office building as well as the Tema and Takoradi branch offices.

He has also engineered the removal of tree stumps in some parts of the Volta lake to allow for easy navigation of local boats, assisted various Senior High Schools with 100 thousand maths books, paid the medical bills of patients detained at the Volta Regional Hospital and assisted numerous others at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital.

Again, as part of the Authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility he donated to various orphanages and some women football tournaments.
