Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential aspirant hopeful, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has said government has no reason not cough out money from the public purse to pay customers of distressed gold trading firm, Menzgold.

According to him, Ghana is not bankrupt and that Government must look for money to pay the customers, just like it did for the customers of now defunct DKM.

Mr. Bagbin who was speaking on Accra based okay Fm and monitored by BestNewsGH.com, said the customers must be protected by government and made to recover their investments at all cost.

‘’Ghana is not bankrupt and so government must pay the customers their monies. There is no excuse about this. There is liquidity in the system and so the people must be paid just like the DKM customers were paid’’ he argued.

According to the second deputy speaker of Parliament who is also the Member of Parliament for the Nadowli/Kaleo constituency in the Upper West Region, the state is duty-bound to ensure that the customers receive their payments in full.

He described as unacceptable, the position by government that it will not use the tax payer’s money to service the payments of the Menzgold customers, as a result of the fact that they were warned not to patronize the company.

‘’When government says that it doesn’t care and that it won’t pay the customers, that is complete abuse of power and when it goes to this length it called impunity’’ he added.
