A deputy National Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Richard Nyamah has threatened to petition the President for the removal from office, of the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Appeatu if the IGP maintains his position that the police service does not know the mask-wearing police men that were seen in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency during the by-election on Thursday, January 31, 2019.

‘’I have serious problems with the IGP. He should own up, how can he say he doesn’t know the masked police men? I am seriously pained by the stance taken by the IGP on this matter. If these are your people who are masked and we all know they are from the Ghana Police, why would he say he doesn’t know them? How can you disown your people? Didn’t he pick intelligence that they were busing people to the place and that they were riding motor bikes to the place? They should be questioning Ofosu Ampofo (NDC National Chairman). If anything is not done about this Ofosu Ampofo actually collecting guns and bullets to go and show at the press conference, seriously I will officially petition for the removal of the IGP. It is getting too much’’ he said.

According Mr. Nyamah the NDC is only being hypocritical about the mask-wearing police men, saying the same officers, wearing the same masks were at the NDC National Delegates Conference at the Accra International Trade Fair Centre late last year.

‘’I am sure you saw the NDC National Delegates Conference. These same masked policemen were there at the Trade Fair Centre and they were part of the elections. They went and monitored and this was NDC’s internal elections, these masked police men were part of it. At the time, Ofosu Ampofo who was a candidate saw nothing wrong with them. John Mahama displayed them as evidence of Ghana’s preparedness to fight any trouble in this country. They paraded them, wearing the same mask. Today they are questioning where they are coming from’’ he added.
