Director of Communications for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buabeng Asamoah has justified the continued detention of the two delta force members who were arrested in connection with an altercation that took place last weekend in Kumasi between members of pro-NPP vigilante group, Delta Force and Member of Parliament for Old Tafo Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto.

According Mr. Buabeng Asamoah who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Adentan Constituency, the party has taken a firm stance that going forward, it will not intercede or shield anyone who falls fowl of the law, and will endeavor to ensure that where the necessary sanctions need to be applied, they are applied to the letter.

Defending why the party has not intervened in the matter even though the court in which the suspects aged 51 and 49 years respectively were arraigned, remanded them into police custody for two weeks, Mr. Buabeng Asamoah said president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has over the years indicated his abhorrence for lawlessness and is bent on ensuring that lawlessness in any form is uprooted in the country.

‘’We have freedom of association. You and I can decide to come together today and call ourselves brothers association. We have the power to do whatever we want to do and say whatever we want to say but we must not flout the law because if you do, the courts must deal with you’’ he said on an Accra based radio station and monitored by BestNewsGH.com

Mr. Buabeng Asamoah said once the law is allowed to go its full length and culprits are punished, it serves as deterrent to others who may contemplate such lawless actions.

Two member of the pro NPP vigilante group delta force have been arrested, arraigned before court and charged with misdemeanor for their role in the attack on the Member of Parliament for the area Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto who was almost lynched by the members on allegations of failed promises. The MP also doubles as the Minister for monitoring and evaluation.

The Tafo Pankrono constituency chairman of the ruling NPP is said to be the one who caused the arrest of the duo and has since refused to cooperate with the legal team of the suspects for an out of court settlement.
