Government has served notice it will no longer tolerate verbal abuses from the overlord of the Asogli state in the Volta Region, Togbe Afede.
Deputy Minister for Regional re-organisation and integration, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah says the revered chief has been at the forefront of criticizing the commission that has been instituted to meet stakeholders and deliberate on the creation of the new regions.
According to him, Togbe Afede has been involved in the discussions of the commission throughout the country and has never showed any dissent as far the creation of the Oti region is concerned and is therefore surprised that the chief will berate the workers of the commission and their work.
‘’We have worked with you all this while and we have accorded you all the respect that you deserve as a traditional leader. When you summon any of us we oblige you and we see you. But to insult the commissioners for no reason and seek to discredit and lampoon them is something we won’t tolerate. All the commissioners are men of substance who are accomplished and you can’t berate and insult them like that. It is not proper.’’ he said on Accra based okay Fm and monitored by BestNewsGH.com
The Minister said the chief has had every single opportunity to make his concerns known to the ministry and the commission but refused to do so and rather resort to disgracing and denigrating the commission and the ministry publicly, saying it is unbefitting of a person of his caliber.
According to him, government has not breached any law as far as the creation of the new regions is concerned saying, ‘’just recently, someone who said he was against the creation of the new regions went to court and the case will be heard.’’
