Adviser to President Akufo-Addo on Health matters, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare has revealed that an additional 1000 recoveries from the COVID-19 virus will be announced in the ensuing days.

On Friday May 15 2020, the country recorded 1,460 recoveries, from an initial 670 recoveries which was announced.

The announcement of the 1,460 recoveries however generated some controversy within sections of the public, particularly, from the camp of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who suggest the figures were cooked by government.

But speaking on Accra based United Television and monitored by BestNewsGH.com, Dr. Nsiah Asare who is also a former Director-General of the Ghana Health Service said “The number we have is the cumulative figure, which means all cases we’ve recorded since our first two cases from the 12th of March have been added up till today. And out of that 28 have passed on and the recoveries are also included, many of them have recovered.”

He continued that “If you are isolated for two weeks and you pass your two negative tests we discharge you to go home and pronounce you as recovered. If you remember, people were complaining about our rate being very low but now we thank God that our recovery rate has gone up over 1,000. We still have about 1,500 more patients who are awaiting their second tests so we can declare them as recovered. I have the confidence that over 1,000 people will recover soon.”

According to him, there is no doubt that government’s strategy on COVID-19 has been effective and is working.
