Anthony Karbo commends President Akufo-Addo for Free SHS as Lawsec celebrates 50th anniversary

The Hon. Member of Parliament for Lawra Constituency in the Upper West Region, Anthony N-yoh Abayifaa Karbo has commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the Free Senior High School initiative.

Speaking during the 50th anniversary celebration of Lawra Senior High School, the MP who also doubles as the deputy Minister for Roads and Highways said “a great duty is imposed upon us all, as beneficiaries of this great policy, to work and ensure that it is successful, to protect it from saboteurs and to reject those who would wish to destroy it. As students, your duty is to validate the trust reposed in you by His Excellency the President by learning hard and passing with flying colors’’.

He admonished parents and guardians to provide the necessary support needed by their wards as their moral guardians in order to help them the fully reap the benefits of the policy.

‘’As teachers and staff, your duty is to adapt your work ethics and methods to suit the increased numbers and to give your best in the discharge of your duties. As Member of Parliament, a duty is imposed on me also to assist Government in any way I can to ensure the success of this policy.  This is a duty I take with utmost seriousness and a duty I pledge not to disappoint in discharging. Let us look back fifty years on and be proud of what we have collectively achieved.”

Mr. Karbo underscored the important role Lawra Senior High School has played in the training of many people from across the country saying ‘’ The school has been instrumental in training several sons and daughters of Lawra and its environs’’.

President Akufo-Addo who was in attendance in his speech promised to build the school an ultra-modern assembly hall complex to mark the celebration.

He charged the leaders of the school and the Lawra Traditional leaders to sit together with owners of the land, settle issues concerning the demarcation of the campus so that, government can completely build a fence wall enclosing the school and students.

He stated that government is going to convert the Birifoh Senior High School into a module school, continue and complete the Boo Senior High School which was started, abandoned and is still at foundation level.

The president also added that, very soon, a vocational/Techinical school will be built for the Lawra Municipality to enroll students for technical and vocational education.
