Leading Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sam P. Yalley says the NDC remains a very vibrant and attractive party to the majority of Ghanaians.
His yardstick for measuring the vibrancy and attractiveness of the NDC is the large number of leading members of the party who have indicated their intent to contest the party’s flagbearership position.
According to him, the mere fact that about ten people have indicated their intention to contest the party’s flagbearership slot even in opposition is an indication that majority of Ghanaians have great confidence in the NDC.
Falling Short of mentioning or declaring his support for any of the 10 candidates, the former Ghana High Commissioner to India said all the candidates contesting the flagbearership slot of the party are very experienced politicians who wield the clout to lead the party.
Some leading members of the biggest opposition party in the country including former president John Dramani Mahama, Professor Joshua Alabi, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and Sylvester Mensah among others have indicated their intention to contest for the leadership of the NDC.
But speaking in an interview with BestNewsGH.com, the former acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority intimated that he had no preferred candidate and that he will rally around any of the candidates chosen by the party’s delegates.
In his opinion, the party represents the only credible alternative to the ruling New Patriotic Party and must work hard at maximizing the confidence the masses have in the party for victory in the 2020 elections.
Mr. Yalley is confident the party’s delegates will elect a candidate that will be appealing to the generality of the Ghanaian people and also be able to unite the party.
