Commuters to the Upper West Region on Monday January 6, 2019 experienced some delays on the way along the Wenchi stretch as residents in the Wenchi township blocked the main road in a demonstration that lasted several hours in protests over bad roads.

BestNewsGH.com sources report that the angry demonstrators, mostly youth, chanted songs and burnt tyres in their quest to attract the attention of the Authorities of the Wenchi Municipality.

Wielding placards some of which read we are so disappointed’, ‘they don’t care about us’ and ‘development issues are not political’, the demonstrators opined that they have for the past decade done everything possible to draw the attention of Municipal Authorities to no avail.

One resident who spoke to Accra based Adom Fm and monitored by BestNewsGH.com said “The roads are very dusty and some security agents of DVLA cannot go to work in uniforms because of the bad roads. We have contacted MCEs, MPs and every authority responsible but they have failed us.’’

It took a combined intervention of the police and fire service personnel to contain the situation, with the demonstrators threatening to continue if their grievances are not addressed.
