Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate aspirant, Alban Bagbin has said he and his colleagues who have petitioned the party’s council of elders to intervene in the matter of the 420 thousand filing fee will not hesitate to go to court, if the council of elders fail to impress upon the National Executive Council to review the amount downwards.
‘’If the national executive committee will not see reason to it, the court is there, that is where we will go to get finality to the issues of controversy or disputes, so don’t be worried, we will know what to do when we get there’’ he opined.
‘’I am very firm in what we have done as a group. We have filed a petition and I am one of the leading members and we believe that the council of elders will listen to it, they will address it and then we will hear from them. We are talking about serious matters, about the breach of our constitution. As a party we have a constitution and it has given authority to people to function in a certain way. If they are not doing that, definitely we have to stop them and so our petition is not only talking about the quantum of the fee or the conduct or statements of party national executives. But we are raising a legal issue and so I will not be one of those who will go to be engaging in an illegality’’ he said on an Accra based radio station and monitored by BestNewsGH.com
Mr. Bagbin who is also the second deputy speaker of parliament continued ‘’I will only pick the nomination forms after the issues we have raised have been addressed and the proper thing is done. Then I will pick the nomination forms, I will proceed according to those guidelines and then I will file and then I will be compelled to pay the proper fees as stated in the guidelines. Until that is done, just count me out’’.
