Mobile telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has rewarded its Mobile Money (Momo) agents in the Western and Central Regions with a firm promise to work in concert with the Ghana Police service to ensure they operate devoid of interference by criminals and miscreants.

There have been concerns and reports in recent times about a surge in armed robbery attacks on Momo agents and vendors, with most of them usually loosing huge sums of monies in the process, culminating in the decision of the company to liaise with the police to offer protection to them.

Speaking at the awards night, Godwin Tamakloe, Senior Manager, Risk and Compliance for Mobile Financial Services at MTN noted that ‘’ while you interact with the leadership and staff of MTN, you are also reminded that as agents, you have a responsibility to serve as ambassadors for the brand. Your actions and inactions affects the image of MTN, therefore we urge you to provide exceptional experience for our customers’’.

He warned intransigent agents to do well to avoid all forms of illegalities, stressing that once they are found out, they risk being blacklisted saying ‘’agents who do not adhere to the rules and regulations are dealt with and eventually blacklisted. As you know, those who have engaged in fraudulent activities have been handed over to the Police and will be prosecuted’’.

Mr. Tamakloe listed the charging unapproved fees, defrauding customers, wrongful Mobile Money registrations, misleading or inducing customers to obtain their PIN and poor customer service as some of the conducts of agents which goes to tarnish the image of the MTN brand.

‘’This year MTN Mobile Money has been recognized and celebrated at four prestigious awards event. GITTA –MoMo Service of the year, Eli Hini – GM MFS for his Contribution to promoting financial inclusion in Ghana, CIMG –MTN Momo –Bank Buddy –TV Advert of the Year, Ghana Business Awards –Momo Service of the Year, Marketing World Awards –Marketing Campaign of the Year –MoMo’’ he added.

Some of the prizes won on the awards night included a Hyundai i10 salon car, motorbikes, 49” smart LED TV, 40” smart LED TV, and Samsung phones.

The event which took place at the Atlantic Hotel in the Western Regional Capital, Takoradi, saw Madam Rebecca Nkrumah of Beckinash Enterprise at Wassa Akropong in the Western region emerging as the overall winner.

She was handed the keys to the brand new Hyundai i10 salon car.
