The National Chief Imam, Sheik Osumanu Nuhu Sharabutu has called for patience and tolerance in the wake of the death prophesy by Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah which has culminated in the destruction of properties at his church by some youth believed to Muslims.

Social Media is awash with videos of the rampaging youth breaking down doors and glasses and pulling down a billboard of Prophet Owusu Bempah as his church.

A statement issued on behalf of the respected National Chief Imam and signed by Alhaji Khuzaima Osman, personal assistant to the National Chief Imam, said ‘’although we understand that such statements poses a great risk to the peace and unity of the followers of both religions; Islamic and Christianity and even to our National Security. His Eminence does not tolerate any violence act or response to the statement’’

The statement also called on all followers of the National Chief Imam to desist from any acts of lawlessness that has the tendency to create confusion and tarnish his hard won reputation.

See the full statement below.

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent and Most Merciful.

We wish to call on all and sundry especially the followers of His Eminence the National Chief Imam to desist from any engagement and act that will tarnish the hard-earned image and reputation of His Eminence particularly on peach and tolerance.

It is the wish of His Eminence that all the adherents of the Islamic faith remain restrained and tolerant and shun away every form of chaotic acts as the Islamic tenets does not condone intolerance.

We understand that the news of the recent statement by Pastor Owusu Bempah, a christian clergyman and preacher that the National Chief Imam of Ghana will die this year has generated a lot of tension and turmoil amongst the followers of the Islamic faith in Ghana and abroad.

Although we understand that such statements poses a great risk to the peace and unity of the followers of both religions; Islamic and Christianity and even to our National Security. His Eminence does not tolerate any violence act or response to the statement.

Islam indeed teaches us that death is inevitable and every soul shall taste death as enshrined in the Holy Quran.

Death is not bound by age or any condition of life.

We wish to once again call all the followers of His Eminence to restrain from any acts that does not augment the peace of this country.

It is also important to note that Clergymen are respected icons of religion and any country they reside and serve. it is therefore expected of all scholars regardless of religion to vet their speeches before making regurgitatings in public gatherings.

We pray to the The Almighty Allah to continue to provide protection and tranquillity to the people of Ghana. And to commit us to live peacefully with each other.

We pray to The Most Benevolent to increase the National Chief Imam of Ghana in life, sound health and prosperity.

Long live His Eminence the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

Long live GHANA.

Sincerely yours,

Alhaji Khuzaima Osman
