Any Political Party that fails to sign the comprehensive roapmap developed by the National Peace Council will not have the support of the Catholic Bishops Conference.

This is because the Conference has stated explicitly that it will campaign against such political parties in the 2020 elections.

The warning of the respected Catholic Bishops come on the heels of the refusal of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to append its signature to the document, which is aimed bringing the long standing issue of political vigilantism in the country to an end.

BestNewsGH.com reports the NDC as saying the party will not append its signature to a document that does not make provision for the signatures of key state agencies like the Electoral Commission and others who have the mandate to fully implement the roadmap.

Rev. Lazarus Anane who is the Secretary of the Catholic Bishops Conference said the Conference is not taking the issue of political vigilantism lightly at all and that it is determined to see an end to it.

He urged all the parties involved to take the matter seriously.

He said “Any party which does not demonstrate its commitment to ending this we will have no choice than to campaign against such parties. Because if we encourage this then we are not encouraging democracy.”
