A 38-year-old woman has delivered triplets at the St. Theresa’s Hospital in Nandom in the Upper West Region.

Madam Paschalene Baawone, unemployed, who now has seven children, including the triplets, is seeking support from public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations to cater for her children.

She said, “I have four children already, comprising two boy and two girls, and now I have these triplets, all girls. I know it is not going to be easy for me. Please help me with cloths, diapers, soap, food and any other thing.

“I owe the hospital an amount of GH₵155 but I don’t have the money to pay,” she narrated amid tears.

She thanked workers at the St Theresa’s Hospital for the attention and care given her.

Dr David Aduwia, a medical doctor at the St Theresa’s Hospital, said, “We realised that all of the babies were breached.

“They were coming out with their buttocks instead of their heads so we had to carry out an emergency Caesarean section since normal vaginal delivery was not possible.”

He added that all triplets had low birth weights which is below 2.5kg.

He gave their birth weights as 1.8kg, 1.7kg and 1.5kg.

For this reason, he said they were taken to the Neonatal and Intensive Care Unit, where they were monitored for their temperature, sugar, weight, feeding, among others.

Dr  Aduwia stated that the Neonatal and Intensive Care Unit is currently congested, saying, “We are trying our best. We sometimes admit as many as 40 babies in there. You can imagine.

“We need a bigger place, warmers, incubators, and also a phototherapy machine too,” he added.

Madam Paschalene Baawone is from Kogle, a village under Nandom in the Nandom District.

She can be reached on 0500435718 for support.

The triplets have since been named as follows: Julia Mwinbarka Baawone, Jayla Mwinkaame Baawone and Janel Mwintieme Baawone.
