UDS Wa and Navrongo autonomy: Schools must be functional before 2019/2020 admissions open-group

The Concerned citizens of Upper West are urging acceleration of the processes that will operationalize the Wa and Navrongo campuses of the University for Development Studies (UDS) following the autonomous status announcement by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufu-Addo.

The group wants the Universities to begin functioning in the new status before the 2019/2020 admissions applications window opens, to enable then attract the requisite numbers in terms of prospective applicants.

The group which held a press conference yesterday November 12, 2018 on the latest development with regards to the announcement by the president recommended that there is the urgent need for the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to expedite action in facilitating the bills for ratification by parliament, adding that the transition team must also ensure that, asset and resource allocations to the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) will not be compromised.

‘’The bill must also go to parliament under a certificate of urgency to enable the autonomous University start running effectively. We repeat our call that a hostel should be named after Ambassador Alhaji Sahanoon Mogtari for his massive contributions to the birth of UDS- Wa now UBIDS’’ the said.

They continued ‘’we express regret to those political activists who seek to make political gains; they should shut up. It is for the good course of the Upper West and Ghana at large. We reiterate that the power struggle and quest for glory will not serve any good’’.
