Solid waste treatment facility: 10,000 jobs expected to be created nationwide-Dr Agyepong Siaw

The chairman of Jospong Group of companies and Chief executive officer of Zoomlion, Dr Siaw Agyepong has revealed that at least 10,000 jobs are expected to be created across the country after the completion of integrated solid waste treatment plants across the country.

He said this at the sod cutting ceremony of an integrated solid waste treatment facility held in the upper west region on Friday,9th October 2020.

The construction of the facility in the upper west region is the 10th of its kind, after similar projects in other regions have successfully taken off.

The facility is part of government’s one district one factory and planting for food and jobs agenda. It is also part of the president’s vision of making Ghana the cleanest city in Africa.

When completed, the Upper West waste treatment facility will process all waste generated in the region,as well as create jobs for the people in region.

It will process both solid and liquid waste, as well as process the organic component of waste into fertilizer for farming activities.

According to Dr Agyepong, the construction of the facility will create 75 direct jobs and 250 indirect jobs for the people of upper west region.

Dr Agyepong expressed his heartfelt gratitude to government and the ministry of water and sanitation for their continuous support towards the establishment of these facilities across the country.

The sod cutting ceremony was attended by the President of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the minister of water and sanitation as well as chiefs and people from various communities in the upper west region.

The solid waste treatment facility is a government initiative through the ministry of water and sanitation led by Zoomlion Ghana Limited with funding from Purecco and Komptech.
