There is uneasy calm within the camp of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), following the entry of actor John Dumelo into the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
Deep throat sources at the NDC national headquarters tell this website that the party leadership are divided as to whether Mr. Dumelo should be allowed to join the race, with some arguing that he hasn’t paid his dues enough to enjoy such a privilege.
According to the source, some strong party members who are looking at contesting the seat are angry at the actor because they believe he should be in the queue and wait for his time.
“That is the general feeling. Some of the party leaders are afraid that if he (John Dumelo) wins the primaries to contest the seat on the party’s ticket, there will be apathy and some amount of despondency on the part of party members. In fact some are even questioning whether he is a card bearing Member of the party because he was only seen during the last elections campaigning alongside some of his colleagues in the Showbiz industry. So the party is actually divided on this matter” the source added.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election has been occasioned by the demise of the ruling New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko who passed on in the United States of America while undergoing treatment for an ailment.
The Electoral Commission is yet to set a date for the by-election.
