But for the recent Banking crisis that has plaqued the country, Maverick politician and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong would have established a Bank.
The New Patriotic Party Member (NPP) of Parliament for Assin Central constituency in the Central Region said he was at the brink of establishing the bank when the crisis which has led to the collapse of several indigenous banks reared its head.
Speaking on an Accra Based Local Television station and monitored by BestNewsGH.com, Mr. Agyapong said he had done all feasibility studies and made enquiries at the Bank of Ghana but was saved by the bell.
According to him, while he was digging to have an appreciation and some insight on the workings of the banking sector in the country in order to help him start smoothly, it emerged that there were hundreds of would-be banks lined up and who had applied to the Bank of Ghana for licenses.
“I was shocked when I went to the bank of Ghana to make some enquiries on how to go about establishing my bank and then the officer opened the book containing the list of applicants. There were so many of them. But for the crisis, my bank would have taken off he opined.
It is unclear whether the politician cum businessman will still go ahead with the plan in future.
