Respect the police and help them to protect you-Akufo-Addo to Ghanaians

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has impressed upon the generality of the Ghanaian people to endeavor to accord the Ghana Police Service the needed respect in order help them prosecute their mandate effectively.

According to him, it is important that the civilian population cooperate with the Ghana Police Service in order that they can help protect lives and properties in the country.

President Akufo-Addo who was addressing the nation at the 62nd National Independence Day Celebrations on the theme, Celebrating Peace and Unity at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in the Northern Regional Capital of Tamale, announced that the police service was moving away from the old and obsolete way of policing to modern policing methods and mechanisms with well spelt out guidelines on how every police officer according to their ranks must operate.

‘’I am glad to note that the police service is moving to modernize its own rules and regulations. We should hold them to their vision to become a world class service, capable of delivering planned, protective and peaceful service to standards of international best practice in a democracy’’ the president averred.

He continued that ‘’we cannot have a successful police service without the cooperation of the population. The cooperation starts with giving respect to the police and encouraging them to earn the trust of the people by serving the public with dedication’’.

According to president Akufo-Addo, the police service instructions that govern every aspect of internal professional behavior has been wholly revised from the code of ethical conduct to administration, welfare, recruitment and training, use of firearms as well as service instructions and has been put into writing with specific directions for every rank in the service.
