Opinion: Trivializing and politicizing kidnapping issues is shameful, unpatriotic and un-Ghanaian-GUPS President

The recent perception created by political elements in our Country to create a sense of insecurity is just not a good sign to the development of our country. What ever purpose such erroneous impressions seem to create is just not worth it.

Trivializing sensitive security threat issues like kidnapping for political dividends is just unfortunate and unpatriotic. We should not lose cognisance of the fact that JB Danquah, Kwame Nkrumah, Ako Adjei, Obetsebi Lamptey, William Ofori Atta and our progenitors laid their lives for the future we are destroying today. Our attitudes today does not reflect the purposes upon which most of the big six were slained. This is not the Ghana they laid their lives for.

Ghanaians are known across the world for our hospitality and peaceful coexistence.  It is worthy of note that kidnapping is alien to us and not the usual behaviour of the Ghanaian criminal.

The new trend of politicizing sensitive issues of national interest poses great danger to our future as a people and does not reflect the ideals of our founding fathers. We must correct ourselves with immediate effect moving into the future.

I see no delight in accusing NPP or NDC over the arrest of the suspected kidnappers who pose a threat to society.

Self seeking and corruptible practices on our borders have rendered our borders porous and opened to criminals from other countries to extend their activities to pollute our system.

I urge all Ghanaians to take a sober reflection on the circumstances that preceded the kidnapping and support the security agencies find a lasting solution. To my disappointment, the usual accusations has dominated the discourse and like many other issues of this nature, I know how it will end.

The youth of this country should have a conscience of their own and reason in between the lines and decipher political issues from  non political issues.

As whether the supposed leader of the kidnapping gang is NPP or NDC sympathizer does not resolve any of our national challenges.

Students and most importantly the youth of this country should arise and save our country in diligence. We should not allow ourselves to be used as conduits to execute irresponsible political agendas.

I will urge the youth to continue to believe in the security and assist them in their operations as and when necessary. Besmirching the integrity of the security service will spell doom for us and the future generation.
