Some youth in Nungua and La in the Greater Accra Region are up in arms against the Member of Parliament for the Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong for what they say is the forceful takeover of lands belonging to them.

The youth groups allege that the MP is capitalizing on his position and using the power of the state to intimidate rightful and legal owners of lands in Accra, particularly in the East Legon area.

Led by one Nii Okpoti Tatse, the group cite for example a parcel of land situated close to the East Legon Police Station and close to the under-bridge as one of the lands which the Assin Central lawmaker is illegally claiming ownership to.

They said the land in question belongs is a boundary area between La and Nungua and have separate judgements from the law courts.

According to aggrieved youth, an investor by name Osa Mensah together with the Chief of Okponglo and the Deputy Head of the Odoi Atsem We of La as well as the La judgement creditors, secured the consent, backing and approval of both the Nungua and La land owners to proceed to develop the parcel of land, but were attacked by land guards and thugs allegedly on the instructions of Mr. Kennedy Agyapong.

These attacks by the thugs and land guards according to the youth has persisted for three consecutive times during which a fence wall and other construction works have been demolished.

‘’What even escalated and exacerbated the matter is the fact that on 18th July 2020, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong himself went to the site, accompanied by four fully armed Military and Police personnel and a team of macho men and demolished all the construction works undertaken by the investor on the said land with a bulldozer’’ Nii Okpoti Tatse said.

The group said the demolishing on that day, did not only incur the wrath of commuters on that stretch, but officers and men of the East Legon Police Station who stood in bewilderment while the action was ongoing.

They said a fierce gun battle allegedly took place between the MP and his team and the Greater Accra Regional Police who had been called in to stop the destruction.

Osa-Mensah, the investor, according to group, has lodged a complaint together with the La and Nungua families against the Assin Central MP.

But even before the legal tussle begins, the youth together with priests and priestesses are warning the Assin Central MP to stay away from their land which they claim belongs the Ga Dangbe descendants and not him Kennedy Agyepong.

‘’So what is happening currently is that the MP is using brute force with the tacit connivance and endorsement of the Police and the Military to chase away this legitimate investor. He has commenced development of the land under the watch of the police, military, land guards and macho men. There is no impunity and show of power that surpasses what this man is doing. We have sought to establish from the police and military hierarchy whether they sanctioned the activities of the men accompanying Mr. Agyapong to no avail. But we’re determined and we will stop him’’ the group concluded.

They are calling on the speaker of parliament and the president of the republic of Ghana to intervene and ensure that Mr. Kennedy Agyapong is bought before the law to avoid any unwanted confusion.
